Power Over Ethernet is a networking standard (IEEE 8023.af) originally developed for powering IP telephones. It provides a means of powering ethernet connected devices. It allows the elimination of numerous wall sockets and allows easy continual use via a centralised un-interruptable power supply. Additionally, it is fully compatible with 10/100 baseT ethernet.
PoE enabling your network is as simple as adding a single or multiport midspan solution in your server room without replacing the switch or hub. PoW power injectors are available from TimeTools and most network equipment vendors.
